The 11th year of Creative Reflections on Translation

Every year, Creative Reflections on Translation provide an insight into the real world of translation and interpreting, and students always leave highly motivated and eager to translate and interpret. This was the case also during the 11th  year of the event, organised by Dr. Andrej Zahorák and assoc. prof. Emília Perez from the Department of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts, CPU in Nitra. The event was opened in a welcoming atmosphere by the vice-dean of the Faculty of Arts, prof. Martin Hetényi; Head of the Department of Translation Studies, assoc. prof. Emília Perez, but also the real “soul” of reflections, Dr. Zahorák.

The event was attended by inspirational guests. In the morning section, Dr. Zahorák spoke with the editor-in-chief of the IKAR publishing house, Dr. Barbora Kráľová and an editor of the IKAR publishing house, Lenka Mondočková, thanks to whom the students got a chance to see how the publishing house functions, including the editorial and translation practice. Dr. Zahorák then interviewed the renowned translator, Dr. Paulína Šedíková Čuhová on the secrets of translating not only contemporary German literature, who motivated students to pursue the translation profession and shared her experiences of translating fiction.

In the afternoon section dedicated to dubbing, a graduate of the Department, Anna Kompasová delivered a presentation on the specificities and challenges of translating dubbing. The event was closed by an expert in interpreting into Slovak sign language and the director of the I think - the Center for the Culture of the Hard of Hearing, Michal Hefty.
