The study programme is taught in suitable and identifiable premises with the following IT equipment and other professional resources:
Lectures are held in halls and seminar rooms, all equipped with the state of the art data IT equipment: interactive boards, projectors, computers and TV sets with multimedia players;
Translation seminars take place in a specialised laboratory equipped with 21 computers with installed CAT tools, dictionaries and other supporting programmes.
Interpreting is taught in two interpretation laboratories. One includes 6 interpreting booths (with two seats), a digital managing unit, a virtual teacher's console, recording equipment, 12 recording dictaphones, mixing desks, and 30 IR receivers with headphones. The second laboratory provides 4 fully equipped interpreting booths. The department also has 12 additional IR units.
As for self-study, there are free, accessible computers either in a study room (30 computers) or in the main lobby of the university and in corridors of other university buildings (65 computers). Electronic and printed thematic documents, study materials and literature on translation studies can be accessed online as well as in the university library and the study room of the Faculty of Arts.
Students have free access to a WI-FI network in all university and dormitory buildings.
The university premises and the facilities placed in them are accessible for students daily (except Sundays) from 7 am till 8 pm.
Translation Equipment and Tools
Our faculty owns a range of editors, translation and terminology tools, graphical and database software that can be used to edit texts, for corrections, work with translation memories and terminology databases, voice recognition etc. including for example:
- TRADOS + Trados Team translation software (160 licences),
- LINGEA dictionaries EN, GER, RUS, FR, SPA (21 licences),
- Phrase translation software (academic license),
- OCR software ABBY FineReader,
- Zoo Digitak (unlimited),
- LSP.expert - Project Management.
The above-mentioned software is installed in 25 computers in our specialised translation lab (photos available in the Photo Gallery section). The software is available to students during their translation seminars and translation training seminars where they put CATs (Computer Assisted translation) in practice on both the BA and MA level.
